Together for Independence

The Philip J. Rock Center and School is more than a facility; it is an extended family to parents and their children who live with both hearing and vision disabilities. Our devoted staff accompany the kids throughout the day, constantly working toward the goal of helping each student live as independently as possible according to their personal abilities. The shared vision of "Together for Independence" makes this a reality.

The Philip J. Rock Center and School was the first established publicly funded Residential School for students who were deaf and blind in the country. We currently have the capability to serve students who are deafblind, blind or visually impaired, or deaf or hard of hearing who require a functional academic curriculum. We service students from the age of three through their twenty-second birthday year.

Executive Director's message Bonnie Jordan

Welcome back to a new school year!

I hope this message finds you well and filled with excitement for the journey ahead. As we begin this new school year together, I want to extend my heartfelt appreciation to our students, families, and staff for your continued support and dedication to our mission.

This year brings fresh energy and new opportunities for growth and learning. I'm thrilled to share that we are welcoming two outstanding professionals to our team:

  • Nicole Englehart, who joins us as our new Principal. Nicole brings a wealth of experience in educational leadership and a deep commitment to inclusive, student-centered learning. Her vision and passion will be instrumental in guiding our school forward.
  • Raquel Pacheco, our new Transition Teacher, will be supporting students as they prepare for life beyond the classroom. Raquel’s expertise and her compassionate approach will be a tremendous asset to our community.

We are also excited to announce that our new facility is on track to be completed in Fall 2025! This state-of-the-art space will enhance our ability to serve students with greater accessibility, comfort, and innovation. Following the completion of the new building, we will begin Phase 2 of our campus transformation: the demolition of the old building and the construction of a brand-new playground in its place. This outdoor space will be designed to inspire creativity, movement, and joyful play for all our students.

We are starting this new school year with optimism, collaboration, and a shared commitment to excellence. Together, we will continue to make the Philip J. Rock Center and School a place where every student is empowered to reach their full potential.
